Amazon has launched its B2B marketplace/ in the UK, two years after it first launched in the US.
The new service from the IRUK Top500 Elite retailer promises to meet the procurement needs of businesses all sizes – and to enable sellers to reach those business customers as well.
Amazon Business sold to more than 400,000 businesses in its first year in the US, generating sales of more than $1bn. Its sellers accounted for more than half of the orders. It also launched in Germany in December 2016 and now has more than 50,000 business customers, and more than 10,000 business sellers.
Between the two sites, Amazon Business has shipped to business customers in more than 60 countries.
“Marketplace sellers have been growing their businesses successfully on Amazon for over a decade as they are discovered by Amazon’s hundreds of millions of worldwide customers,” said Francois Saugier, vice president, EU seller services at Amazon. “With Amazon Business, sellers can grow their sales to business customers in the same way, offering a number of services and features specifically designed to boost B2B sales.”
Simon Johnson, UK director of seller services at Amazon, said: “We’re always looking to innovate our Marketplace offering to deliver increased value for customers, whilst providing new opportunities for third party sellers in the UK,” said . “Amazon Business will enable sellers to reach registered business customers in the UK and abroad.”
