Amazon vs Alibaba: infographic

Proving that a little perspective is never a bad idea, delivery firm ParcelHero has published a report looking at how well the ecommerce giant is doing with its push to develop its logistics arm, and an infographic comparing the retail giant with some other big names.

The report, Amazon’s Prime Ambition, reveals the extent of Amazon’s investment and planning in developing its own logistics operations and harnessing the potential of the Internet of Things to support Amazon Prime.

Roger Sumner-Rivers, founder of ParcelHero, said: “Amazon’s aim for its new distribution arm, Amazon Logistics, is that it becomes a logistics company in its own right, competing with companies such as UPS, the Royal Mail and FedEx.

“The move will save Amazon $3 billion a year globally, but its ultimate delivery aims will boost its income far more significantly in the future. Amazon needs its own logistics operation to develop Same Day, Sunday and evening deliveries, supporting its ambitious Prime membership plans. Our report reveals this is an expensive service for Amazon to provide, but that Prime customers spend a huge 50% more than non-Prime members.”

ParcelHero also created an infographic that compares the mighty Amazon with some familiar names to see how it stacks up.

It shows:

  • Who has the higher income, Amazon, Alibaba or Tesco?
  • Is Apple worth more than any Amazon?
  • Does Amazon makes more money than HSBC?
  • Who has more web hits Amazon, eBay or Apple?
