Amazon’s plans for an airbourne fulfillment centre have been revealed after the unearthing of a patent that would allow their use with drones to deliver goods to customers.
The filing with the US Patent Office suggested that the AFC could be an airship that remains at high altitude of around 45,000 ft with drones used with ordered items deployed from the AFC for delivery to customers.
“An AFC may be positioned at an altitude above a metropolitan area and be designed to maintain an inventory of items that may be purchased by a user and delivered to the user by a [drone] that is deployed from the AFC,” said the patent.
