Multichannel consumer electronics retailer Best Buy is on course to open five more stores in the UK this year.

The US chain is planning openings for shops in Hayes and Bristol in April, before going on to open in Nottingham, Rotherham and Enfield later in the year. The move will extend the UK presence of Best Buy, which arrived in this country last year, to eleven stores.

Best Buy also sells online.

Staff for the Bristol and Hayes stores are currently midway through a nine-week training programme.

Best Buy has a reputation for customer service and Steve Jensen, managing director, Best Buy UK, said the new stores would follow the existing model.

He said: “Like in all our stores there are no dummy devices on show, with all of the products and services, including tablets and internet TV, working and ready to try out. This means our teams can better help our customers choose and demonstrate how to get the most out of what they buy so it really works for them.”

The confirmation that Best Buy Europe, a joint venture between Best Buy in the US and the UK’s Carphone Warehouse group, would continue to roll out its store opening programme comes despite speculation that the chain is faring less well in the UK than expected thanks both to the economic downturn and promotions from rivals.
