Folding bike manufacturer and retailer has signed a new four-year contract with Wincanton for warehousing and transport service, as Brompton looks to meet growing demand.

Brompton bikes are sold in 47 countries around the world, and over 70% of production is exported. The company produces almost 100,000 bikes a year and over 1,000,000 have hit the roads since the first bike was made in 1975 by the inventor Andrew Ritchie.

In order to streamline Brompton’s logistics operations, drive efficiencies and increase sustainability, Wincanton will consolidate Brompton’s existing network of warehouses across London into a single facility in Greenford, West London. The site, located close to Brompton’s manufacturing facility, will be operated by Wincanton on behalf of the business.

Laurent Ramanathan, supply chain director at Brompton, said: “We are delighted to commence a four-year partnership with the Wincanton team who impressed us with their commitment to customer service, driving efficiencies, and productivity through our operations.

“As our business continues to scale globally, Wincanton are the ideal local Partner to provide the necessary warehousing capacity to support our manufacturing operations in Greenford.”

Wincanton provides storage, handling and distribution; high volume efulfilment; retailer ‘dark stores’; two-person home delivery; fleet and transport management; and network optimisation for many of the UK’s best-known companies including DFS, Primark, Waitrose and Wickes.

James Hurrell, managing director, grocery and consumer at Wincanton, added: “Brompton is a real British success story, and one that we’re delighted to bring on board as a customer. We look forward to working together and are pleased that our storage and distribution infrastructure, and the expertise we offer alongside it, will help to support Brompton’s next phase of growth.”
