BuyItDirect has launched a new specialist drone website as it looks to become the largest retailer in an emerging market that it says is now gaining mainstream appeal.
The launch of DronesDirect.co.uk follows BuyItDirect Group’s acquisition of ProFlight-UK, which currently sells more than 50 drone models as well as quadcopters and flying accessories to customers from hobbyists and racers to professionals within the photography and filmmaking industries.
Nick Glynne, managing director at BuyItDirect Group, said the move added to BuyItDirect’s specialism in gadgets. It already operates AppliancesDirect.co.uk and LaptopsDirect.co.uk.
Glynne said: “Whilst ProFlight-UK Ltd already has a customer base of drone racers, hobbyists, professional aerial photographers and cinematographers, BuyItDirect will help to bring the products to the attention to a wider audience.
“This acquisition is key to the continued growth of BuyItDirect, and allows us to maintain our position within the electronics market. We anticipate drones will become a real growth market as they move from a hobbyist product to have a wider appeal – they are genuinely useful pieces of technology and have thousands upon thousands of possible applications.”
ProFlight-UK founder Tim Morley, will continue to be responsible for the DronesDirect website. He said: “I am thrilled that BuyItDirect has acquired ProFlight-UK Ltd – Nick and the company have a genuine interest in the product category and are keen to develop our offering and bring it to a wider audience – and I know the group’s vast experience and expertise in online retailing will allow us to secure future success.
