Buy now, collect at Glastonbury. That’s the promise from camping retailer Milletts, whose customers can now buy the equipment they need online, through a dedicated website, or in store and pick it up when they arrive at this month’s festival.
The innovative offer means that festival goers can buy their tent and other equipment online. They’re then sent a despatch note which is used to collect their equipment at the Glastonbury Milletts stall.
The service means that shoppers can buy all the must-take festival equipment, from tents and air beds to wellies and cagoules, but save themselves carrying them to the event, which starts on June 23.
While faulty equipment will be replaced on the spot, other refunds and returns will take place after the festival.
The offer is limited to the first 500 orders, with the last order date on Wednesday June 16.
According to the Glastonbury Festival: “We’ve worked with Millets to ensure that all the products being made available for Buy and Collect are quality items, which will serve you well for festivals for many years to come.”
But they warn: “The intention is absolutely not for people to order a tent to collect at the festival then leave it here on the farm.”
Our view: It’s not often we’d give space to the launch of a single service that will only benefit 500 shoppers, but we’re impressed by the ingenuity of this one. It uses online technology to deliver a very simple but ultimately very convenient, user-friendly service, as anyone who’s ever lugged their tent to a festival will attest.
This, along with Millets’ ongoing association with Glastonbury, helps redefine this particular retailer as a youth brand, and is a step towards making camping more attractive.
