Delivery company City Link has won a £1.5m contract to deliver goods for home shopping company JML.

JML, set up more than 40 years ago and owned by its employees, sells online, through its four Sky shopping channels and through retailers including Boots, Wilkinsons, Poundstretcher , Asda and Debenhams.

The carrier will be delivering goods from its warehouses in South Shields, to retailers such as Asda, Homebase and Debenhams for JML Retail, and to consumers for JML Direct. Most deliveries will be made through its Next Day service.

Sara Spink, JML’s logistics manager, said the My City Link service, which gives updates on the exact location of parcels, was very useful. “As part of My City Link there is a radar page giving you up to the minute information on the whereabouts of your consignment,” she said. “As customers we also receive MailTrack email notifications which are particularly useful as this allows us to be more reactive to issues as and when they arise upon delivery of a consignment.”

Duncan Faithfull, sales and marketing director at City Link, said: “We at City Link are delighted to be working with JML in a partnership where we believe we can add real value to the business. As with all new and existing customers, our priority is ensuring we have a real understanding of their business so in turn we understand their needs and expectations of us, as their carrier of choice.”

As well as selling in the UK, JML also exports to more than 70 countries and has retail businesses in Europe, the US, Singapore and Hong Kong.
