Clarks shifts to agile innovation footing with new software

Clarks has implemented new software in its distribution centres to allow it to more quickly roll out new applications.
The shoe seller will use software from WHISHWORKS to build an API-based network on which it can quickly launch new services without disrupting day-to-day operations. This will eliminate the need for time-consuming integrations.

Clarks plans to use the technology to modernise its warehouse management systems and distribution centre, alongside its deployment of MuleSoft’s Anypoint Platform.

Initially the retailer plans to introduce merchandise financial planning, which will allow it to manage prices and products across the business. The retailer will also use the technology for other unspecified projects in the future.

Guy Mason, CIO at Clarks, said: “With the global supply chain becoming more complex and competitive, it is no longer a case of simply stocking shelves and waiting for shoppers to come rushing through the doors.

“Rapid developments in technology are changing the game and it is no longer a matter of big business versus small, but rather, faster versus slower.”

Clarks’ distribution centre in Street, Somerset, ships on average 75000 pairs of shoes per day.
