In today’s InternetRetailing newsletter we’re focusing on Black Friday, with dedicated sales underway across Top500 retailers since yesterday evening – and earlier. This is set to be the biggest spending day of the retail year, so expect to see queues galore, though it seems these may be more commonplace online than in-store. But given that many Black Friday deals have now been on offer for some days, if not weeks, then it’s also possible that sales may be slower than expected. As yet it’s all to play for. We’ll be reporting back next week with early results from Cyber Week and from Black Friday in particular.
Even today there’s more to retail than Black Friday and we also report today on the updates that retailers have given during the week on their multichannel strategies.
We report on Mothercare and Majestic Wine where the common theme is transformation as both work to put digital front and centre in long-established high street retail businesses. We also report on Quiz, which contrasts of an example of a business launched into a multichannel world. It’s not so much transforming as expanding its business in a bricks and clicks model that’s just now starting to launch into international markets.
We have news on what this week’s budget may mean for some multinational digital retailers, while today’s guest comment comes from Gavin Matthews of Bond Dickinson, who considers how traditional retailers can use technology to fight back against the likes of Amazon.
