Delivery app Getir to stock Co-op products as it boosts the range available for fast delivery

Delivery app business Getir is to stock products from the Co-op, increasing the range it offers for fast delivery from its stores. 

Shoppers living close to Getir stores in the London areas of Battersea, Earls Court, Seven Sisters, Tottenham, Balham and Bethnal Green will now be able to buy goods including fresh meat, fruit and vegetables direct from the Getir app for delivery within minutes. The tie-up will see about 300 fresh and ambient products lines added to Getir’s range of around 2,000 products. A trial of the products is expected to extend to further locations in coming months. 

Getir UK general manager Kristof Van Beveren says: “Getir is committed not only to speed and convenience but to exploring new and innovative ways to serve customers looking for a broad selection of products and everyday groceries. These products represent the best of British farming, ethical trading as well as support Co-op’s charitable partnerships.  We are excited to expand our product choices and look forward to adding brand new lines to our service that will meet the needs of our growing community.”

The products will be supplied via the Co-op’s wholesale arm Nisa Retail. Nisa Retail head of sales and wholesale corporate development James Roberts says: “Getir is enabling us to reach more Co-op customers across London and the UK in record time – an exciting proposition for us. We’ve always prided ourselves on the excellent range of products we make available and so giving customers the best possible choices when it comes to groceries and combining that with the convenience of rapid home delivery was a natural fit. We look forward to hearing what customers think.”

Getir was founded in 2015 and has operations in all 81 cities of Turkey. Its UK operation launched in 2021, along with operations in the Netherlands, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Portugal and the United States..

Our view: This partnership is interesting as an example of how a new sales channel that emerged in the UK during the pandemic is now evolving post-pandemic. Getir is developing the range it sells in order to establish it as effectively a delivery-first retailer, while for the Co-op this represents another channel through which it can reach both existing and new customers. 

The Co-op has developed its own grocery ecommerce business over recent years largely through a headless approach to commerce, with goods fulfilled by the local fast delivery businesses that list the products it has in its store on their apps. Now it goes a step further as one of those fast delivery businesses now stocks its products in its own stores.
