DHL Express is trialling an autonomous delivery platform from Cleveron Mobility on the streets of Tallinn, Estonia, as the partnership works to prove the viability of driverless last mile delivery operations.

The strategic cooperation, announced in June, has seen one of the world’s leading logistics companies pilot unmanned robot couriers – the CLEVON 1.

CLEVON 1 is fully electric, able to operate 24/7, covering up to 100 kilometres on a single charge and for this trial features DHL’s branding. The partnership added the driverless platforms are perfect for urban parcel transport, reducing both emissions and noise pollution.

“We are seeing that the automation of parcel delivery is gaining momentum in Europe and other countries with a high share of e-commerce,” said Arno Kütt, CEO of Cleveron.

“For us, the cooperation with DHL is significant, as it provides an opportunity to introduce our environmentally friendly last-mile technology to more people and measure its efficiency with the largest logistics company in the region.”

Kütt noted that negotiations for other similar projects are ongoing and predicted that several international pilot projects will be launched by the end of the year.

While, DHL Express added that the trial enables it to test the electrification of last mile delivery, which is one of the main pillars of DHL’s recently announced sustainability action plan.
