DropPoint seeks retailers for new Pass the Parcel CSR initiative

DeliveryX

DropPoint has launched Pass the Parcel, a new service which it claims allows retailers an easy way to meet their CSR ambitions by encouraging their customers to donate goods and send them on through a click and collect solution.
With the new service a retailer who wants to offer it signs up with DropPoint and requests labels which can then be inserted into their outbound parcels.

Once a customer receives the parcel they are encouraged to fill the box from their delivery with item donations for a charity, stick the label on the box and select a charity online. “This can be any charity with postage activated on DropPoint or the retailers can preselect some charities,” says DropPoint CEO and co-founder Christian Purcell. “The customer then drops off the parcel at Collect+ and it comes to us. We then do an aggregated sort and forwards as you would retailer returns,” he says.

“There are so many different charities and community groups out there looking for gifts-in-kind, but unless you already know about them you would never consider them when you’re decluttering. Today’s consumer society means people often have quality items around the house that aren’t being used, but the only donation opportunity that comes to people’s mind seems to be the high street charity shop,” says Purcell.

Encouraging retailers to sign up to the scheme Purcell said that it could help retailers meet CSR obligations. Although retailers are billed for the labels used he said he didn’t see it as additional business cost as CSR budgets are increasingly ringfenced.
