Dutch supermarket chain Albert Heijn will deliver products for free via electric bikes as part of a partnership with a local smartphone app.
Customers will now be able to order from the retailer’s convenience range, AH to go, through the smartphone app Thuisbezorgd.nl, which offers goods from 7500 restaurants in the country.
The orders will be delivered through the Scoober delivery service. The service allows drivers to sign up for work via an app and operates across six Dutch cities.
Using electric bikes, the riders will collect products from one of two AH to go stores in the city.
The collaboration will run for two months before being evaluated.
Jan-Willem Dockheer, general manager at AH to go, said: “The online ordering of a lunch or meal is becoming more and more common. Together with Thuisbezorgd.nl we can make even more customers happy with our delicious, fresh products.”

Albert Heijn said it plans to add more home delivery options at the beginning of next year.
