Logistics company the DX Group has opened a sorting and distribution centre dedicated to online retail. The new centre is part of DX’s strategy to become a key player in delivery for the fast-growing ecommerce industry.

The new Warrington site, which replaces two smaller DX centres in North Wales and Manchester, boasts sorting speeds of up to 4,000 parcels an hour, thanks to a £120,000 investment in equipment. The company says the 100-employee site serving the north of England will “dramatically increase” the capacity of its next-day national secure delivery service for etailers. It comes after a year in which, according to IMRG figures, ecommerce grew by 16%.

DX says that ahead of Christmas 2011 it doubled the amount of ecommerce business handled each day, compared to the same period in 2010, and it is now focused on establishing itself as a key player in the sector.

The centre was opened on Friday by Gary Woods, managing director of longstanding DX client Park Retail, a voucher and prepaid gift card business. He said: “I am very pleased to open this impressive new centre in Warrington on behalf of DX and I am sure it will play a vital role in helping companies to capitalise on the exciting growth within the online retail sector.”

Petar Cvetkovic, chief executive of DX, said: “We are delighted to officially open this state-of-the-art parcel sorting and distribution facility in Warrington, which has been created to meet demand from the fast-growing online retail sector.”

DX retail clients include Asda, Vision Express and Cloggs, while the company, which delivers more than 1m letters, parcels and packets a day, is also carrier of choice for UK passports and visas.
