eBay is cutting its international selling fees for six months in order to persuade more than 14,000 small and medium-sized businesses to sell overseas. During the course of a six-month programme, eBay will waive its final value and insertion fees when invited UK sellers list their goods on the marketplace’s French, German, Italian and Spanish sites.

The programme starts today and will run until October 7. It aims to encourage businesses to overcome barriers to international trade, such as language, shipping, and payments, and includes a 60-day trial translation with WebInterpret.

Murray Lambell, director of international trade at eBay Europe, said: “Cross-border trade represents a massive economic opportunity for the UK. eBay provides a simple, low cost platform to reach over 128m shoppers around the world 24/7 and currently more than 80% of small and medium-sized businesses on eBay sell internationally.

“We are continually thinking of ways to help online merchants grow their businesses. This promotion – with no fees and free translation tools, gives micro-multinationals the opportunity to expand overseas at low cost, providing a great buying experience and even more choice for shoppers.”
