Four million people have downloaded eBay’s iPhone app so far and the company will see $380 million in sales via iPhone for the first nine months of this year, eBay boss John Donahoe has told delegates at a Shop.org summit.
And it’s not just low value items that are being sold, Donahoe explained; purchases made via the iPhone app have already included a Lamborghini and a $150,000 boat.
Donahoe added that eBay’s focus is now “to be the best marketplace… We are not a retailer and we will never be a retailer. We’re going to be a marketplace that will not compete with its sellers.”
Going forward, its twin goals are to be “very good at ecommerce in a marketplace format” and “the best in the world at online payments.”
