Editorial: How to delight with delivery at Christmas

Our focus on Christmas continues this week. In this week’s opinion piece Ben Willis, managing director international of Radial, advises on how to delight customers with delivery and returns over the festive period.
Centiro meanwhile warns that if the UK is to maintain its international lead around delivery retailers must ensure that they can juggle multiple delivery options successfully in order to keep customers happy this Christmas.

Whilst keeping customers happy is one thing the drivers that deliver their parcels are unlikely to be smiling if over-zealous parking attendants keep up their assault on the market, according to ParcelCompare, who say that delivery drivers are being hit with too high a proportion of parking fines and need a little more leniency if rising delivery costs are to be avoided.

Hoping to speed up delivery with the expansion of its service is Gett Delivery. The company has announced the appointment of a former AmazonFresh manager to lead its expansion across London and into other major cities.

It’s of little surprise that such businesses are expanding when you take into consideration the growing impatience of shoppers. A new report from Sorted suggests that more than half of UK shoppers want faster deliveries and nearly a third want ultra express services of less than two hours to be offered as well, putting even more pressure on the delivery experience.

Currys PC World has become the latest retailer to address this need for speed with the announcement that it is to offer a same day delivery service with customers able to opt for a two-hour timeslot. With just over a week or so to go now until Christmas shoppers will be wanting their deliveries more urgently than ever.
