The French luxury sector remains one of the most resilient and influential in global retail – but the newly-launched France Luxury 2026 report from InternetRetailing in partnership with imagino reveals a market at a critical inflexion point.

While revenues have climbed to €28.1bn in 2024, up from €19.1bn in 2019, the forces shaping future growth are changing fast, as the luxury landscape is reshaped by a tougher economic backdrop, growing digitalisation, and an increasingly globalised world.

At the heart of this shift is a new definition of value. French consumers still prize craftsmanship and heritage, but they are increasingly driven by pragmatism: 56% prioritise value for money, alongside quality, longevity and sustainability.

This is transforming how luxury is discovered, experienced and purchased.

Digital transformation is at the heart of the landscape

The report shows that digital has fundamentally reshaped the sector. Luxury shopping is now evenly split between in-store, desktop and mobile, while global audiences, from Asia to North America – including younger buyers and a growing male consumer base – are entering the market through immersive digital experiences and social platforms

At the same time, entry points into luxury are shifting. Beauty and fragrance are emerging as powerful acquisition channels, while recommerce is booming as shoppers seek more accessible ways to buy premium goods.

Sustainability is a must-have

Sustainability is also no longer optional. With 73% of French consumers willing to pay more for sustainable products, circular models such as resale and repair are moving into the mainstream.

Meanwhile, AI-powered personalisation and clienteling are redefining the luxury experience, raising expectations for seamless, high-touch interactions across every channel.

Looking ahead, the report forecasts steady growth for French luxury at a CAGR of around 4.8% – but warns that success will depend on how well brands integrate technology, sustainability and storytelling without losing their identity.
