Editorial: The power of tying customers into subscription-based delivery

DeliveryX

It’s a tactic that Amazon has led the way on but tying in customers to a subscription-based delivery service that offers them convenience and cost savings whilst for the retailer increasing the propensity that shopper is likely to shop with you again is becoming increasingly popular. Amazon this week revealed that its Amazon Prime Day on July 11 saw more members signing up to its subscription-based Prime service than on any other day in its history.
And this week we have two new retailers announcing that they are launching such services. First – and biggest – is Zalando. The online fashion platform is initially testing its Zalando Zet membership service in four German cities before rolling the service out to further destinations. Amongst the many benefits will be faster delivery services, including same day,and an on-demand returns delivery service that will allow pick-up of goods within two hours from a location of the customer’s choice.

In the beauty space it’s Feelunique that has launched a subscription-based delivery service. Its Unlimited delivery service will cost less than a tenner for a year and will give next-day delivery to customers shopping with the company with no minimum order value set for the offer and no cap on usage.

Instore online fashion retailer Missguided has announced it has launched Doddle’s click and collect technology in its flagship stores in Westfield Stratford and Bluewater Kent in an effort to ensure the company offers a click and collect solution that the stores deserve.

Keeping up with changing goalposts that will affect delivery is one of the biggest challenges for retailers and their partners and in our opinion piece this week Centiro’s Niklas Hedin reveals how to keep up with changes.

Of course to ensure you really are kept up to date with the latest changes in the industry you need to have the joint eDelivery and InternetRetailing Conference in your diary. One ticket will get you into both events and this week we bring you news of the key themes of the EDC stream. Don’t forget that the early bird offer has been extended but will expire next month!
