Tesco, Amazon, eBay, and the retail sales figures: a week of contrasts
Today's Internet Retailing newsletter reports on a week of ups and downs. Tesco's online grocery deliveries
were up – but its full-year sales and losses were both down, with the latter hitting a record low in the company's history.
Then, ONS figures showed
, online sales were up, compared to a year ago, but down compared to next month. Amazon and eBay
both reported rising sales in the first quarter of their financial years, but Amazon reported losses at the bottom line.
The picture, however was more straightforward for Travis Perkin-owned Wickes, as it reported rising sales
fuelled by multichannel innovations, while Zalando also showed the business was on the up
as it opened its first technology centre outside Germany.
