Spanish department store chain El Corte Ingles has teamed up with some of the country’s top football clubs to allow customers to virtually experience the inside of a stadium when buying tickets to matches.

Customers will be able to see a simulation of how the view they would have in a given seat before they purchase a ticket to a La Liga match.

So far the experience is available for four clubs: Getafe CF, Albacete Balompié, Elche CF and Club Gimnàstic de Tarragona. The retailer said further clubs would join the service in the next few months.

El Corte Inglés worked with BeTIX Sports by Expertus Technology on the project, which represents the next step in its expansion of its ticketing services. The retailer sells tickets to other sports matches as well as music and theatre events.

The company has had a partnership with Spain’s national league, La Liga, since 2017. The retailer will also sell tickets through its physical outlets and customer service line.

2017 saw El Corte Ingles reach over 370 million visits a year on its main retail websites, up 21 percent compared to 2016. The company invested €425 million during the financial year, of which it said a “considerable part” was focused on digital activities.

The cornerstone of the retailer’s digital strategy is to integrate its physical and online operations and work to convert customers who use only one channel into multi-channel shoppers.
