Evolution in action as multichannel takes a step forward

This is an archived article - we have removed images and other assets but have left the text unchanged for your reference

In today’s InternetRetailing newsletter, the focus is on the evolution of multichannel, which today took a step forward with House of Fraser’s unveiling of its latest concept store – an existing coffee shop crossed with a department store. The innovative step gives House of Fraser a new base in Cambridge, where it currently sells products but doesn’t have a store. We’ll be interested to see reaction – will Caffé Nero’s customers flinch at being sold to when they’re enjoying a coffee, will they welcome it, or will House of Fraser bring in so many extra customers that it won’t matter?

Time is running out to share your views in our Seasonal Peaks and Customer Experience surveys. Let us know your thoughts before 1st October and we’ll enter you into a prize draw to win one of four tickets to the Internet Retailing Conference 2014.

Today we also interview House of Fraser’s Andy Harding on refoundationing through mobile in our Internet Retailing Conference preview, and report on how warm weather seems to have dampened sales growth at John Lewis.

We investigate two studies, one from Nielsen and one from Capgemini, which suggest changes in the way we shop online – including how we use social media.

Today’s guest comment comes from Nick Fletcher of Rakuten Marketing Europe, and considers steps retailers can take now to plan for Christmas.
