For the first time, shoppers outside London can get their online orders delivered to their door in just 90 minutes. Aurora Fashions brands Karen Millen, Oasis, Coast and Warehouse are the first to sign up for the new service from logistics business Shutl for deliveries in Manchester, Leeds, Glasgow and Edinburgh.
Shutl pioneered its 90-minute deliveries within the M25 London area with Argos. This May it launched London deliveries for Aurora Fashions, before this latest extension of the service to four more cities.
Shutl founder and chief executive Tom Allason now says it expects to launch deliveries to more cities in the coming months.
“This next phase of Shutl’s expansion will enable us to serve around 25% of online shoppers in the UK,” he said. “Assuming all goes to plan, we expect to launch across another five cities in the coming weeks. Our goal is to have sufficient coverage by November to give high-street retailers a significant competitive edge over Amazon and the other pureplay e-tailers this Christmas.”
Shutl, which works by aggregating the capacity of local same-day couriers into a web-based platform integrates with retailers’ ecommerce platforms to allow them to deliver online orders from local stores. Because distances are short, delivery is faster than from a centralised warehouse and can also be done for a relatively low price.
Shutl delivers 24 hours a day, seven days a week from only £4.95, though some retailers offer the service for free or at a discount to improve conversions.
