Flirtey and 7-Eleven claim completion of first month of routine commercial drone deliveries

Whilst Amazon may have hyped up the first delivery by drone in the UK earlier this month drone delivery company Flirtey says that is has made 77 autonomous drone deliveries to customer homes in the US in a month in conjunction with 7-Eleven.
The most popular items were hot food items, cold beverages and over the counter medicines flown to customers in Nevada.

It follows a commercial collaboration between the two companies which began in July with the world’s first autonomous drone delivery to a customer’s residence when it delivered Slurpees, a chicken sandwich, donuts, coffee and candy.

“Flirtey conducted regular weekend deliveries during November from a 7-Eleven store to a dozen select customers who were able to use a custom app to place their unique order,” said the company in a statement.

The app listed items available for order, notified customers when the drone was loaded and also when it had left the store and was due to arrive with the customers concerned. Deliveries were made within 10 minutes from point of order, said the company.
