Flooring retailer celebrates key milestones in sustainability partnerships

Flooring Superstore: showing the way to sustainable retail

Flooring Superstore, which pledged in August 2020 to plant one tree for every square metre of flooring it sells, has planted more than 3.5 million trees in a year. It has also removed around 1 million plastic bottles from the sea.

Partnering with the Reforestation Project, Rainforest Trust UK and ReSea Project, the retailer has seen 3,586,537 trees planted, 1,069,905 plastic bottles removed from the ocean and 29,979 acres of rainforest protected.

On top of that, the flooring retailer has supported 25 local community projects and charities, including donating £21,254.82 of flooring to worthy causes, including Oasis Community Housing, NHS, RSPCA, Samaritans and End Youth Homelessness. It has also donated £18,870 to its chosen charity, Woodland Warrior Programme.

Furthermore, Flooring Superstore has invested in a range of new, sustainable product lines including Serene, a new range of eco-friendly carpets made from recycled products rescued from the ocean.

The two lines – Neptune and Poseidon – are manufactured using ECONYL, a unique yarn made from recycled nylon fishing nets. Its eco textile backing – Eco FusionBac – is manufactured out of recycled PET plastic bottles. Flooring Superstore has also launched a range of rugs and runners made from recycled t-shirts and other materials.

Dan Foskett, Chief Executive Officer at Flooring Superstore, comments: “We’re on a journey to be more than just a carbon neutral company. At Flooring Superstore, we’re committed to positive actions that make a real difference. Part of this has seen our sustainability partnerships with key organisations to contribute to reducing our carbon footprint and issues relating to global warming by planting trees, cleaning up oceans, protecting habitats and supporting communities.”

He adds: “We are proud of how far we have come in the last year but as a flooring retailer we understand we are part of an industry that has a lot of work to do to be more environmentally friendly. We hope to change this, one step at a time. We’re aiming for the majority of our products to be made from recycled materials as well as be fully recyclable within the next 10 years. The latest additions with our Serene carpets, rugs and runners made from recycled clothing is an important step in making sure our products are as environmentally friendly as possible.”
