Ford begins serial production of electric delivery van

DeliveryX

Ford has begun production of the Deutsche Post DHL StreetScooter WORK XL, an electric delivery van based on a Ford Transit chassis and built to StreetScooter specifications.
The vans are being built at Ford’s European headquarters in Cologne, Germany, with up to 16 models built a day – and an annual production capacity of 3,500 units.

The model is being used to support Deutsche Post DHL Group’s urban parcel delivery service in Germany and will be used exclusively initially before also being sold to third-party customers.

WORK XL is the largest delivery van in the StreetScooter portfolio, with a load volume of 20 m3, room for more than 200 packages, and a payload of up to 1,275 kg. Ford will manufacture the van with a range of electric motors and lithium-ion batteries. Compared with diesel models, each electric delivery van will offer a reduction in CO2 emissions of 5 tonnes each year and a saving of 1,900 litres of fuel.

“Together with Ford, we are promoting electromobility in Germany and making inner‑city delivery traffic more environmentally friendly and quieter,” said Achim Kampker, CEO and founder, StreetScooter.

StreetScooter is owned by Deutsche Post DHL.
