In today’s InternetRetailing newsletter, we’re reporting on how shoppers are buying – and on innovations that are shaping the way we will shop, and take delivery of our purchases, in the future.

We report how UK shoppers went online to buy in January, according to British Retail Consortium figures out today, with 21.5% of all retail sales taking place online, and we report on new developments that are part of the constant innovation which is keeping UK retail a world-leader in the multichannel and ecommerce industry. Ocado and technology partner Cambridge Consultants are using wireless to control movement in its automated warehouse, while Doddle is innovating with a parcel collection service that formalises the willingness of neighbours to take in deliveries for each other.

Today we also report on the significance of the Chinese New Year to the UK ecommerce retailers. We interview Katrina Jamieson of Halfords, ahead of IRX 2016, and today’s guest comment comes from Darryl Adie of Ampersand, who considers the economics of free delivery.
