German supermarket chain REWE will now offer same-day delivery in eight of the country’s major cities.

Customers can place orders on the REWE.de website or via an app before 1PM and then receive their orders from 5PM onwards.

It is available on 12,000 products on the website, including fresh fruit and vegetables, dairy and meat products and frozen food and drinks.

Customers will also be able to click and collect products from participating REWE stores with a lead time of three hours.

The service is available in Berlin, Hamburg, Hanover, Cologne, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Munich and Mannheim.

Drasko Lazovic, director of delivery and collection services at REWE digital, said: “In addition to the quality of the products, the wishes of the customers play a central role in the REWE delivery service.

“For example, the ’Same Day’ concept was initially tested in selected regions in various pilot projects for a long time in order to ideally coordinate customer benefits and operational processes.

“As a result, more and more customers can benefit from the added flexibility of ordering fresh food and having it in the fridge four hours later – at no extra cost compared to regular delivery.”
