Amazon Prime Day, held today and tomorrow [10 – 11 October 2023], has seen over half of shoppers wait to bag a better deal. Bethany Windsor, programme manager from Generation Logistics, comments on the important role of logistics in delivering deals to the nation.
“Whilst it may appear to be just two days of discounts, for the logistics sector, it’s a period that requires intense planning and preparation,” she writes.
“Generation Logistics’ recent research, shows that October is the second most popular month for shoppers to start their Christmas shopping, with one in four Brits planning to kickstart their festive shopping this month (23%) so preparation will have started months ago. At this stage it is a case of all hands on deck to ensure the thousands of Prime orders land on shoppers’ doorsteps across the country.
“From the second a customer completes their order, a range of logistics roles come into play, spanning the warehousing where goods are stored and processed, to customer services who make sure the customer is happy and fully informed, to people working on infrastructure, and the transportation team who plan and physically transport the goods to the customer.
“High profile events like Prime Day show how dynamic logistics is and highlight the rewarding careers and variety of roles available”.
Generation Logistics is an awareness campaign for the logistics sector. The government-backed initiative looks to find and engage the next generation of logistics talent. Its aim is to highlight the range and scope of logistics careers, from entry level pathways through to graduate programmes.
