HelloFresh has leased space for its second UK site as it expands in this market.
The healthy meal kit business, ranked Top1000 in the RetailX Growth 2000 Report 2019, will base its second UK production facility on the site, following fast growth during Covid-19 lockdown.
Those based at the site will assemble fresh ingredients from produce and packaging received from both local and national suppliers before distributing them to customers across the country.
In 2019, Berlin-based HelloFresh delivered more than 280m meals, and reached more than 4m customers over the last quarter. It now operates in 13 countries on three continents.
The company has leased 230,384 sq ft at Goodman’s Nuneaton 230 development.
Nigel Dolan, development director at Goodman, said: “We’re proud to welcome HelloFresh to our Nuneaton 230 development. Its innovative business model leads the way in both the healthy home cooking and subscription service revolution and we’re pleased to be able support the growth of its UK production and fulfilment network.”
In May, HelloFresh reported a fast rise in first quarter turnover as customers subscribed to meal kits during the pandemic. At the time, it said it expected full-year turnover to be as much as 55% ahead of the same time last year. Dominik Richter, co-founder and chief executive of Berlin-based HelloFresh, said at that time: “On top of our already very strong first two months of the year, our meals have attracted significant additional demand in the second half of March, as the global pandemic hit all of our markets in short order.
“Especially in those times, it makes us proud that we were able to deliver 111 million meals to families throughout the world, allowing them to enjoy incredible home-cooked meals from the safety of their homes at a very affordable price point.”
