H&M seeks ‘IT-savvy’ staff for omnichannel DC in Milton Keynes

H&M has begun a recruitment drive as it prepares to open its first omnichannel DC for the UK and Ireland.
Located in Milton Keynes, the site will service stores and online orders in the countries.

H&M will close its existing distribution centre at Wembley, with all staff being offered a role at the new site. The site will also provide 800 new jobs.

The retailer has already begun advertising for staff on its website, with job descriptions highlighting IT skills and familiarity with warehouse management systems.

Toni Galli, country manager for H&M UK and Ireland said: “Our customers are increasingly choosing to shop with us in an omnichannel way, so we see this facility as a really important way for us to integrate our online and store operations so that we can meet our customer’s changing needs more effectively.”

Fay Rennocks, logistics manager for H&M UK and Ireland added: “We believe that the technological solutions in place at our new DC will reduce the need for our employees to engage in repetitive tasks, while enabling improvements for customer service. We’re pleased to be able to offer some exciting new roles in an area of ever-increasing importance within our business.”

In January H&M claimed an ongoing upgrade of its logistics network pushed up costs in its Q4 results, but it may already be reaping the benefits. The company’s net sales were up 5% to €5.45 billion, with online sales rising 22% year-on-year to reach €2.9 billion.
