The 45th edition of the Brit Awards, held on 01 March 2025, has resulted in significant album sales at HMV.
The music and entertainment retailer reported one winner’s album soared 1,333% week-on-week across HMV’s stores and online. This jump came from UK jazz group Ezra Collective, who won Group of the Year and performed with guest star Jora Smith at the awards.
Phil Halliday, managing director at HMV and Fopp, said: “The Brit Awards 2025 showcased the very best of British music, celebrating an eclectic mix of talent and introducing incredible artists to new audiences.
“The success of this year’s winners has led to a boost in sales at HMV, as fans continue to be inspired by the performances on the night, support homegrown talent and celebrate British music’s impact on the global stage.”
Myles Smith, winner of the Brit’s Rising Star award, saw sales for his A Minute… EP jump 308%. Charli XCX, who won five awards, including Artist of the Year, saw a 109% increase in sales for the Brat remix album. While, Rachel Chinouriri who was nominated for Best New Artist and Artist of the Year saw a 450% surge in sales week-on-week.
HMV has seen overall sales steadily grow since its rescue in 2019 by Sunrise Records. The retailer returned to profitability in 2021, after five years of losses. Last year it recorded revenue increasing by 18% to £177.9mn.
Its London flagship reopened in April 2023, and in an interesting move the music retailer dedicate a whole floor of its Oxford Street store to literature as it introduced its first standalone book offering.
