How retail innovation is giving customers new levels of service

This is an archived article - we have removed images and other assets but have left the text unchanged for your reference

In today’s InternetRetailing, we report on the way retailers, both traditional and newcomers to commerce, are innovating as they look to give the customer the convenience and ease of shopping that they want. We report on Amazon as it launches its Pantry members-only grocery delivery service, and on Livingetc as it launches its own shop on marketplace Clippings.com.

We also tell how Travis Perkins and Majestic Wine are improving their omnichannel and customer service as they look to do the same. Then we report on an LCP Consulting report that says a third of retailers say Black Friday is both unprofitable and unsustainable. That may well be the case, but, as the report also points out, it seems very likely that Black Friday is here to stay. Retailers will decide whether Black Friday works for them but inevitably retailers that ensure their systems link in an effective and efficient way across channels will deliver their customers increased satisfaction.

Today’s guest comment comes from Guillaume Le Mener of Tektronix Communications, who considers how traders can best use mobile data to improve the shopping experience.

Our webinars

Our next webinar will be on November 24, when we’ll be joined by Chris Ross, responsible for corporate business development at Secure Trading, who will be considering how retailers can best prepare for Black Friday and Cyber Monday. The payment specialist will be considering issues from website performance and conversion to the customer payment experience, tackling cyber fraud and returns. £1bn in sales by December 1 – are you ready? is at 2.30pm.
