How retailers are forming new partnerships for a new world of commerce

In today’s Internet Retailing newsletter, we reflect on the nature of cooperation in a digital world as we report on new partnerships being formed.

We have news of Net-A-Porter as it merges with Italian online fashion company Yoox to form a global luxury etailer, and of Sotheby’s and eBay as they team up for their first live auction. All are targeting new potential markets and customers by adding the technology and expertise of a partner. They’re hoping, in short, to become more than the sums of their parts as they expand beyond their natural or traditional marketplace. It’s a trend we’ve already seen in the UK as Argos sets up digital stores in Sainsbury’s supermarkets, a move that the partners hope will be a win-win for both.

It’s a theme also reflected in today’s story of how Salecycle has become the first B2B trader to collect reviews from business customers via the reviews platform Reevoo.

Today we also report on how B&Q owner Kingfisher is looking to build a stronger European business by aligning its values across the continent – and that includes putting the customer first, and adopting omnichannel ‘everywhere’.

Today we also cover Thomas Cook as it reports a 10% rise in online bookings, and IRX and EDX 2015 as they notch up 20% growth during the year. Today’s guest comment comes from StellaService’s John Ernsberger, who argues that service will define the next decade of ecommerce.
