In today’s newsletter, we’re considering the growing importance of social in commerce. Asos reports in its full-year figures today that it has more than 12m social media followers, and that its social stylists alone have a collective following of more than 850,000.
At the same time, an HTC study underlines the importance of the selfie in modern commerce – a factor that New Look digital director Jack Smith also acknowledged when he spoke at IRC 2015 last week.
Taken together, these stories suggest that retailers that make social a priority are benefiting from using the channel as a mechanism to influence, engage and persuade.
Today we also report on IMRG figures that suggest online sales returned to stronger growth in September, and on predictions that more will buy online in future, both on groceries, according to the IGD, and on Christmas, according to Vouchercodes.co.uk. Meanwhile, Oasis has added Doddle returns to its fulfillment service, and today’s guest comment from Mark Haviland of Rakuten Marketing considers ways of succeeding in international commerce.
