IKEA has introduced a new mobile app in France and the Netherlands, aiming to offer a “completely new shopping experience”.
The new application is available free from today in both countries for both Android and iOS. Users of the existing IKEA app will receive a request to update.
The app allows customers to directly purchase products, offering an improved search function. It will also offer product recommendations and reviews and allow customers to create and save shopping lists, as well as place orders without logging in.
IKEA plans to roll the app out to all its other markets. It did not specify when.
The home retailer said the app was part of its plan to be “ready at an accelerated pace for a new shopping era, in which improved digital shopping options, more speed and convenience play a crucial role.”
Shirley Jones, commercial manager of IKEA Netherlands, said: “Our new app is a great example of how we are making IKEA smarter and more accessible.
“We are firmly committed to an improved digital shopping experience, both online and in our existing stores. We prefer to integrate the two in order to make it easier for customers to shop with us where and how they want it.
“We know that over 80% of our shop visitors orientate themselves in advance on our product and service offering and we also notice that the digital IKEA catalogue is being consulted more and more, which offers us great opportunities, because of course we can add new products and collections much faster digitally via the app and IKEA.nl then in a printed catalog that appears only once a year.”
