InternetRetailing Media has bought Tamebay, a leading source of advice and information for eBay and ecommerce professionals.
The acquisition comes as InternetRetailing Media, the company behind InternetRetailing and eDelivery Magazine, tightens its focus on publishing after selling its event series to Clarion Events earlier in 2015, and acquiring Fulfilment & e.logistics and m.logistics magazines.
The Tamebay acquisition, which took effect on August 1 2015, enables InternetRetailing Media to immediately broaden its offering of leading news, research and industry analysis.
Tamebay was founded in 2006 as a blog focused on sharing the best practices, uses, new features and policies of eBay. Chris Dawson and Sue Bailey founded the website with the objective of helping readers to ‘Tame eBay’ and get the most out of the online auction site. With time, the media evolved and grew in scale and complexity. Tamebay transformed itself into a platform with a broader scope, committed to sharing the latest trends and developments in ecommerce to help SMEs grow their business.
Since 2011, Tamebay has been co-directed by Chris Dawson, formerly a full-time eBay seller and ecommerce consultant, and Dan Wilson, internet marketer and author of Make Serious Money on eBay UK, Amazon and Beyond. This editorial team will be continue in place after the acquisition, both in the short-term and long-term.
Mark Pigou, director and co-founder of InternetRetailing Media, said: “Tamebay will be celebrating its 10th year in November; this is a key milestone for any publication and we are very pleased to be taking Tamebay into the InternetRetailing fold as we all move forward. Chris and Dan have been friends and colleagues of the InternetRetailing house for some years now and we are delighted to have them both as part of the team.
“This acquisition will give Tamebay the support it needs regarding commercial resources, technical and management issues. It is also an accelerator for the serious ambition InternetRetailing Media has to become the UK’s and Europe’s undisputed leader in ecommerce.”
Chis Dawson, founder and editor of Tamebay, said: “With the increasing volume of content we publish, combined with the growing complexity of ecommerce and the various aspects of running the Tamebay business, Dan and I have been spreading ourselves a little too thinly this past year. We’ve long recognised that to grow Tamebay to its full potential we needed expert help in many fields; we are looking forward to working with InternetRetailing Media to achieve this.”
