Internet Retailing this week named the UK’s top 500 multichannel and purelay retailers in the new IRDX Top 500 Footprint 2014.
The listing, published at Internet Retailing Expo 2014, reveals the country’s Top 100 retailers, from Amazon to Zara, as well as a following 400 retailers, which runs from organic food specialist Abel & Cole to shoe retailer Zalando.
By publishing the list, Internet Retailing aims to kickstart a debate about what makes a top retailer.
The Top500 list, said Ian Jindal, Internet Retailing editor-in-chief, as he launched the report, will form the basis of the Internet Retailing Top 500 Index, the IRDX. That, he said, will “examine the dimensions of performance within multichannel retail, question the extent to which these dimensions are leading indicators of success, extract learnings and good practice insights and connect the capabilities of the suppliers and key staff within the index.”
Those dimensions of performance, as set out by Internet Retailing editors in the publication, include the innovation, operations and logistics, customer experience and interface and mobile strategies that retailers have developed.
By gauging retail performance against these measures, Internet Retailing aims to publish an ordered listing of the top 100 companies later in the year, before going on to explore the suppliers who contribute to the top 500 retailers, and the top 500 individuals working in ecommerce and multichannel retailing.
