Shoe shop Schuh is augmenting its multichannel strategy with a foray into mobile through the tried and trusted route of a transactional iOS app, so that users can, with a mix of metaphors, have a “Schuh in their pockets’. An m-web site is set to follow later this year.

The app, which has been built in-house by the retailer, will give shoppers the ability to not only buy on their iPhone, but also to check real-time stock at their local branch, find a store, track orders, read reviews and ask for help. The app will also let users manage their accounts on the move.

Schuh will further enhance its multi-channel offering with a mobile optimised website later this year. This site will detect what handset the customer is using and then deliver a site tailored to that device.

We have further exciting plans for developing our mobile offer in 2011 and see progress in this area as relevant to both our core customer demographic and our overall efforts to extend customer choice,” says Sean McKee, Head of e-commerce at the retailer. “ We have no doubt plenty to learn from this initial effort and look forward to hearing what our customers think of our app.”
