JD Sports have become the latest big name high street retailer to launch a mobile version of its web site. The new mobile platform has been released just in time for the start of the Christmas, giving the tech savvy JD customers more options than ever when it comes to how they do their Christmas Shopping.

Over the past 12 months JD has experienced a sharp rise in the volume of traffic from mobile devices, making it important to offer customers a way of shopping that fitted with their lifestyle. The new JD mobile site has been designed with Usablenet, the company behind the development of mobile platforms for Marks & Spencer, John Lewis and Debenhams.

“With UK Web traffic from mobile phones growing eight times faster than traffic from PCs, it is clear that mobile represents a massive opportunity for retailers to provide customers with seamless access to essential services from their mobile phone, wherever they may be,” said Usablenet President Nick Taylor. “By offering customers the ability to make on-the-go purchases through the mobile Web, JD Sports is reinforcing its leadership in the retail space.”

The new mobile site will make it easier for all mobile phone users to make purchases whilst they are out-and-about, smart phone users will also be able to easily find their nearest JD store on the site by taking advantage of the GPS technology

Mick Peek, Head of E-Commerce for JD Sports Fashion, said: “This move underlines our determination to remain a genuine multi channel retailer, putting our customers at the heart of our business. We know mobiles are really important to our customers and this will enable the best possible shopping for them wherever they are.”

The mobile optimised version of the JD site gives users all the content of the main JD site but tailored to their particular mobile device. Users will be able to browse the full range of products and brands including adidas Originals and Nike trainers.

The navigation has been simplified and product pages have been adapted to work with the varying screen sizes of mobile devices.

The new mobile site has been designed to work on all mobile devices including the iPhone, Android, Blackberry and Windows Phone 7. So for anyone reading this on their mobile you can be one of the first people to visit the new mobile site by going to www.jdsports.co.uk now. The site will automatically recognise the device you are using and redirect you to the mobile version of the web site.
