JumpStart: ‘Fraud and Payments’ event preview

This is an archived article - we have removed images and other assets but have left the text unchanged for your reference

Our JumpStart rapid procurement programme continues this coming Thursday, 11 Feb at the spectacular City setting of Tower42 (formerly known as the Natwest Tower) in the heart of London’s square mile. The JumpStart programme provides a short, sharp and robust briefing from leading companies in a given field, concentrating not upon sales flannel and Powerpoint, but rather the inflexion points to consider during procurement.

The event is free to attend for retailers — register here: http://www.internetretailing.net/jumpstart/payment-fraud/

As has become the norm, rather than a simple set of competitors we have a group of people covering different parts of the Fraud and Payments spectrum, and so the session will prove to be a useful morning for those looking to get insights into performance and service in this area.

The session is chaired by Ray Fowler, an expert in multichannel logistics. Ray is a frequent contributor to InternetRetailing and has been a stream Chair at our conference for the last few years, to great acclaim. Ray’s combination of chairing skills and subject matter knowledge will make this a stimulating session.

The event starts with a cluster of payment service providers: Barclaycard, Cybersource and OptimalPayments.

Barclaycard’s Howard Bell will open with an overview of the payment options available and considerations for retailers at scale. He may be the first to mention PCI-DSS, but importantly we’ll learn some coping and exploiting strategies…

Richard Parker, Head of Sales at CyberSource, will discuss how a single, centralised payment management solution can help merchants maximise their potential revenues and manage their international growth.

Drawing on key results from CyberSource’s 2010 UK Online Fraud Report, Richard will be outlining a best practice approach for managing your payment process end-to-end, helping you protect, optimise and grow your online business.

David Jokinen, OptimalPayments’ Managing Director, will present several case studies illustrating some of the more common payment acceptance challenges faced by Internet merchants today. He will share the consultative approach used to solve these challenges in different ways for different clients.

After a break we’ll return for the second half, looking at different views of payment and security.

SagePay’s David Backshall will look at the key issues merchants face managing card data and compliance by exploring the tools and solutions that can assist them in managing their risk. He’ll also cover one of our favourite topics – what payment types to offer consumers in European countries. As befits SagePay’s active role in helping growing merchants build their online businesses he will also touch upon payment providers’ role in maximising conversion rates at the checkout.

The Third Man’s Paul Simms will then take us ‘behind the scenes’ to understand how fraud assessment is integral to profitability and give us a privileged glimpse at how decisions are reached and the options and levers available to retailers. Fraud assessment can be seen as a ‘commercial art’ rather than a black box.

Our presentations close with Paul Court of ClaraNet. Paul will examine the role of a managed service provider in helping retailers achieve and then maintain a secure, PCI-DSS-compliant infrastructure. Paul will outline how a secure platform for the business of processing payments and preventing fraud. Paul will also mention the benefits of cloud computing to retailers wishing to establish a compliant environment.

The morning’s session concludes with a buffet lunch and the ability to chat with presenters and peers, while admiring the views over the City.

There follows some information on some of our presenting companies, but full details and (free) booking information is available at the JumpStart event site: http://www.internetretailing.net/jumpstart/payment-fraud/

Cybersource

“CyberSource is more than a global payment gateway or merchant services provider. We are focused on solutions that optimise business results and boost revenue through active management of the entire payment process – from global payment acceptance and processing, through to order screening, fraud management and enterprise payment security.

Founded in 1994, CyberSource began developing online payment and fraud detection technology long before the eCommerce industry took off. In fact, we pioneered online fraud screening as well as the concept of an internet commerce suite – this allowed companies to outsource eCommerce transaction services as and when required, precluding the need to build and maintain costly and complex infrastructures.

Today, through continued innovation and investment, we now offer a comprehensive set of high performance payment management solutions for multiple sales channels, including the web and call centres. With a customer list that includes lastminute.com, British Airways, Debenhams and Nike, we enable our merchants to sell online in over 190 markets worldwide, helping them to protect, optimise and grow their operations.”

Optimal Payments

“We are an international payment service provider with more than a decade of experience serving e-commerce clients in dozens of countries. Unlike many of our competitors, we tackle our clients’ business challenges via bespoke solutions configured to their particular needs. Our core offering is a bundled payment acceptance solution consisting of one or more merchant accounts backed by our acquiring bank partners in Europe and North America, a sophisticated payment processing system, and intelligent risk management services.”
