Urban Outfitters is rolling out fast in-store cloud analytics to its shops in markets including the UK in order to help staff make more effective, data-led decisions.

The retailer is using Qllik Sense Enterprise SaaS for its promise of near real-time in-store reporting. The project brings data previously reported in three separate places together in one central hub that updates every two minutes, displaying through a variety of dashboards and reports. Staff can now get current data on their store  KPIs, from inventory receipts and store conversions to the top 50 sales by store, and act on them. This, says Qlik, takes the retailer towards a fully data-driven culture in which staff can develop new apps quickly to understand current data, and to develop local store strategies that respond to local market conditions.

John Devine, CIO of Urban Outfitters, says: “Our data strategy is centred on maximising the efficiencies and scalability of the cloud, and whenever possible creating cloud-to-cloud synergies.

“We already benefit from Qlik Data Integration feeding our Snowflake cloud data warehouse. With Qlik sitting on top of Snowflake, we can confidently scale access to more near real-time data for in-store employees. This will help improve store performance wherever our associates are in the world, while reducing the stress and costs associated with managing our on-premise data sources.”

The technology roll out started in Urban Outfitters’ US stores before this month moving on to its shops in Europe – which include 32 in the UK.

Stephen Foster, SVP Americas at Qlik, says: “Customers like Urban Outfitters, Inc. are leading the trend of leveraging the scale and power of the cloud to support their transformation to a fully data-driven organisation through data and analytics.

“We look forward to continuing to partner with Urban Outfitters, Inc. to extend the power of real-time data with Qlik’s cloud analytics to every store in their ecosystem and activating data for impact.”

US-based Urban Outfitters has 254 shops around the world, of which 61 are in Europe, including 32 in the UK.
