Looking to the future of multichannel shopping

This is an archived article - we have removed images and other assets but have left the text unchanged for your reference

We’re looking to the future of online and multichannel shopping in today’s Internet Retailing newsletter. Both the near future and the more long-term future are in the spotlight today.

We hear from the entrepreneurs behind two businesses that could leave a mark on the future of retailing.

First, Rock Pamper Scissors founder Mat Braddy tells us about the way he’s using mobile to make booking a hair appointment a process that is both inspirational and as convenient as Uber.

Then, we hear from Kaustuva Mukherjee on the launch of iBuySell, which promises a new kind of peer-to-peer selling for the future, while today’s guest comment comes from Tim Barber of Pitney Bowes, who considers the future of online deliveries, from drones to international deliveries.

All these are visions for a longer-term future. How exactly these predictions and upcoming companies will fare is yet to be seen, though it’s likely that ideas formed in the present will resonate in the future and form the basis of further developments that still lie ahead. Looking to the nearer term, New Look chief executive Anders Kristiansen warned today that the outlook for the British economy could be challenging. Bringing these different futures together

Today we also report on the past and present. Online sales rose in May, according to BRC figures out today, while health and beauty retailers are passing up opportunities to personalise their interactions with customers, according to a new study.
