Maplin has introduced 90 minute deliveries from its ecommerce site.

The consumer electronics retailer has signed up with delivery service Shutl to offer consumers with a qualifying postcode their delivery either within 90 minutes or in a convenient one-hour slot of their choosing when they check out their purchases on the Maplin site.

Shutl says more than 60% of the UK’s online shoppers will be able to opt for the delivery method immediately. Initially Shutl will deliver using stock from 83 Maplin stores across the UK, adding another 21 shops in the spring.

“This new partnership with Shutl will give our customers an even better access to our range of 15,000 products,” said Gareth Pownall of Maplin. “Maplin is the first retailer to embed the Shutl delivery options within the checkout process, and with delivery starting from only £5, the service represents fantastic value for money.”

Tom Allason, founder and chief executive of Shutl, said: “Maplin offers its customers the latest in innovation and technology, so it’s only natural that their delivery proposition reflects this. Technology enthusiasts hate waiting more than a few moments for a web page to load, so it seems strange that they accept waiting days for their new tech.” Allason also said the service would give Maplin a competitive edge over pureplay retailers.

Maplin becomes the sixth retail brand to work with Shutl, which is already used by Argos and Aurora Fashions brands Oasis, Coast, Karen Millen and Warehouse.
