In today’s InternetRetailing newsletter, we’re reporting on a mixed picture as more retailers bring out their Christmas trading figures.
Today Joules, Morrisons and Majestic Wine all reported rising sales over the festive period, but that’s in contrast with yesterday’s update from Mothercare, warning that profits were set to be lower following a Christmas in which it held back from discounting while facing a challenging retail environment.
Some of the reasons for the mixed picture become clearer in BRC analysis that suggests shoppers spent less on non-food products as prices, and spending, on food rose.
We also have an interesting insight into the power of customer engagement from Games Workshop, the makers and sellers of the Warhammer game, as it reports a 71% rise in online sales, and overall sales up by more than 50%.
Today’s guest comment comes from Wayne Holgate of Paragon Software Services, who considers how the rise of mobile commerce is changing customers’ delivery experience.
Delivery is also a subject for today’s 2018 retail trends prediction, which focuses on delivery and packaging forecasts.
