Moonpig makes augmented reality greeting cards following deal with Zappar
Bespoke greetings card company Moonpig is pioneering Augmented Reality based greetings cards and messages that will allow customers the chance to create greetings cards online that incorporate their own videos and messages following a partnership with Zappar.

The process is simple, pick a card (any card? – Ed) on the Moonpig site, upload a video or personal video message, select a still for the front of the card and send to the recipient. The recipient can then bring the card to life using the Moonpig App, available free of charge from iTunes or the Android Market Place.

The selected video will play on your Smartphone using Zappar’s proprietary technology from the front of the card. It can also be simply saved to your camera roll and be watched or replayed at a later date.

This signifies a world first in innovation and technological advancement for the greeting cards market using Zappar powered technology: proving how Augmented Reality can be applied to connect the digital world with physical products - going beyond simply marketing.

Caspar Thykier, Managing Director for Zappar explains: “This will be the next step in how people receive and view greeting cards, providing purchasers and recipients with a whole new way of creating personal messages. We feel implementing AR in such an everyday item as a greeting card is a great way to use the Zappar platform. It really demonstrates how the technology can truly enable a product in a commercial context with a tangible consumer benefit.”

Iain Martin, MD for Moonpig adds: “Since we first launched we have continued to add new features and content that enable our customers to send the very best cards – the video card is a major step forward. It looks like a regular card but point a smart phone at it and it comes to life. Making a card through Moonpig is really simple. Explaining to Granny how you managed to send her a greeting card with a video of the grandchildren singing Happy Birthday .... might be more tricky!”
