Outdoor clothing retailer Mountain Warehouse has selected BigCommerce’s Catalyst and Makeswift solutions, as it moves from a “monolithic solution” to the headless platform.
Simon Neale, chief technology officer at Mountain Warehouse, explained: “After a thorough evaluation, we chose BigCommerce because it will provide us with reliable, out of the box features and still allow us to customise our ecommerce experience, thanks to its strong API framework. This gave us the best combination of time to market and product flexibility to support our internal resources.”
The British outdoor brand has recently focused on a strategy of online growth, range expansion and the development of its own marketplace.
Mountain Warehouse added its marketplace to its existing website, widening its range from a focus on own-brand outdoor and sport clothing, camping and skiwear. The Mountain Warehouse Marketplace launch enabled independent sellers to trade their own products alongside the Mountain Warehouse range.
Founded by Mark Neale, who opened his first shop in 1997, the retail brand – whose mission is “to help everyone join the great outdoors” – has expanded to sell its products through 365 shops in eight countries, through 10 websites and through third-party marketplaces including Amazon.
Its most loyal following remains in its UK home market, but it also sees significant interest from customers in Poland, among other European markets.
Furthermore, the RetailX USA Growth 2000 report recently tracked how Mountain Warehouse sells to US shoppers, in a key export market, through an easy-to-use website.
New store openings – including in Australia – are also planned, Mountain Warehouse said in its full-year results, alongside a continued focus on its range. “The group will continue to invest in product range expansion to support online growth and will seek to increase the number of third party sellers operating through the Mountain Warehouse Marketplace,” the company noted.
