myHermes updates weight bands for parcels to take on Royal Mail

Delivery specialist myHermes is altering its parcel weight bands for smaller and medium sized parcels. The aim of the move is to showcase the cost effectiveness of services offered to SMEs, Internet power sellers and consumers looking to send parcels. myHermes says this puts it head-to-head with competitors, such as Royal Mail.
myHermes has revised the parcel weight bands to make it easier for both small businesses and consumers to compare prices against its competitors. This will ensure that organisations and individuals have the opportunity to benefit from choosing the carrier that offers the best value when sending parcels of different sizes.

Typical account holders who will be affected include those who run e-commerce stores on eBay and Amazon, as well as their own websites/small stores.

Two new weight bands created

Up until now, myHermes customers have paid incremental shipping costs as the weight of the parcel increases, ranging from “up to 1kg” for the lightest items and “up to 2kg” for those slightly heavier parcels, all the way “up to 15kgs”.

The delivery firm has now created two new weight bands: “0-2kg Small” and “0-2kg Medium”. Consumers sending parcels under 2kgs in weight and equal or less than 45cm x 35cm x 16cm (length, height, width) will be able to take advantage of the smaller category, while those measuring more can opt for the “0-2kg Medium” band.

No change to pricing

Prices will remain the same as under the pre-existing system, but myHermes says it will continue to offer a range of additional benefits, including track and trace plus free parcel cover up to the value of £25.

Eoin Kenneally, Head of Ecommerce at myHermes, said: “This adjustment brings our parcel weight bands in line with many of our competitors and will therefore provide sole traders, SMEs and independent retailers with the ability to better compare shipping costs. By enhancing transparency across the marketplace, we will ensure more consumers can benefit from the true value for money offered by myHermes’ range of services.”
