Prior to this, he worked at Shop Direct, holding the positions of interim group finance director, interim finance director and group financial controller.

In 2016, Appleton held the position of CFO at Hotter Shoes, joining from VictoriaPlum.com where he held the same position.

In a statement, the company said: “The board would like to express their gratitude to Rachel Izzard for her work with Steve Johnson, group chief executive officer, and the board to ensure an orderly handover period to Dominic.”

The appointment of Dominic Appleton to the board remains subject to FCA approval.

The news comes as N Brown recently reported a drop in revenues thanks to “challenging online market conditions”.

In the 53 weeks to 4 March 2023, the parent company of Simply Be and Jacamo posted a 5.3% drop in group revenues to £677.5 million, compared with £715.7 million last year.

Adjusted profit-before-tax also fell by 82.6% to £7.5 million compared with £43 million in the same period last year.
